What's Happening with the Traffic Light at Prairieview Road & I-74?
When the traffic light at the Prairieview Road exit of westbound I-74 was removed, Mahomet drivers immediately felt the effects. Traffic has, at times, backed up onto the interstate if the flow of cars on Prairieview Road does not let up. Residents have expressed frustration to the Illinois Department of Transportation, and Village of Mahomet Engineer Ellen Hedrick submitted a formal request on behalf of the town.

Is there hope for a reinstated traffic light?
Because the traffic lights were installed as a temporary measure during construction on I-74 that required planned detours, IDOT removed them when those detours were no longer in place. And while they acknowledged the significance of recent backups, they said that a traffic signal study to evaluate a permanent stoplight at this intersection would have to wait until construction concludes on I-74.
Village of Mahomet Engineer Ellen Hedrick estimated that such a study would not take place until at least the spring.
