It may feel like summer’s conclusion is fast approaching, but there are still two full weeks of July to enjoy! This week, the Community Calendar is packed with fun programming for Mahomet residents of all ages.

On Monday, July 20, Mahomet Parks and Recreation will host a Lego Brick Mania Workshop (10 a.m., MPRD Multipurpose Room, 218 South Lake of the Woods Road). Builders in 1st-5th grades will gather to engage in challenges, learn new techniques, and enjoy free play. Check MPRD’s site for additional time offerings for this program. (Register here) $35
Head to the Mahomet Public Library on Tuesday, July 21 for Stories from Route 66 (6:30 p.m., 1702 E. Oak Street), an event focusing on the history of America’s most famous highway, facilitated by the Illinois State Museum based on their archive of over 100 oral histories about Route 66. High school students and adults can register here. Free
This week’s Village Board of Trustees Study Session is a joint meeting with the Planning & Zoning Committee, taking place on Tuesday, July 21 (6 p.m., 503 E. Main Street). The meeting’s focus is a workshop and presentation from the SmithGroup consulting team concerning the Village’s 2027 Comprehensive Plan and the Mahomet Parks & Recreation Plan. (Learn more here)
Mahomet United Methodist Church will host its monthly Spicy Seniors event this Wednesday, July 22 (1 p.m. 1302 E. South Mahomet Road). Seniors gather for fellowship and, this month, card games! (Register here) Free
Join the Cookbook Club at Six Red Chairs Bakery if you are interested in cooking and eating with others in our community. The meeting on Wednesday, July 22 (7 p.m., 401 E. Oak Street) will share meals from Ina Garten’s Go-To Dinners. (Register here) $50
Got bugbites? Join the Mosquito Ambassador Program! This event on Thursday, July 23 at the Museum of the Grand Prairie (6 p.m., 950 N. Lombard Street) teaches backyard mosquito management, bite prevention, and the ecology of mosquitoes. Participants can also learn about contributing to mosquito research from their own homes. Head back to Lake of the Woods on Saturday, July 25 for the annual Summer Splash! event (9 a.m.-2 p.m., LOW Peninsula, 101 N. Lake of the Woods Road). This Sunday, July 26, there will be a “Midwest Muscle” Strongman competition in downtown Mahomet (9:30 a.m., 506 E. Main Street). This fundraiser for first responders and veterans is a family-friendly event that will also include food trucks and “touch-a-truck” fun. (More info here) Free
