This Week in Mahomet: July 13-19

Once again, there is something for everyone this week in Mahomet programming. Move your body, eat ice cream, learn something new, or practice your favorite hobby! The start of the school year is about four weeks away – plenty of time to make the most of a jam-packed Community Calendar.


  • Monday, July 13 is the last opportunity to attend Yoga on the Lawn at Mahomet Public Library (6 p.m., 1702 E. Oak Street). This free exercise opportunity is led by a certified instructor and is intended for adults. (Register here) Free

  • A Village Board of Trustees Study Session will take place on Tuesday, July 14 (6 p.m., 503 E. Main Street). This week’s meeting includes discussion of an ordinance regarding liquor and gaming codes, a contract regarding Village brand strategy, an ordinance regarding excessive brake noise, and other items.   • After practicing civic participation on Tuesday, head to Yellow & Co for some entertainment on Wednesday! American Idol Winner David Cook will perform at Yellow & Co this Wednesday, July 15 (7 p.m. 1830 Patton Drive Suite 2). (Buy tickets) $35, $45, $65

  • 2-5-year-olds and their caregivers can enjoy an outdoor story time, songs, garden exploration and take-home craft this Thursday, July 16 at Salted Spade’s Garden Stories event (10 a.m., 97 County Road 2150 North). (More info, register here) Free

  • The Mahomet Music Club welcomes musicians of all ages, skills, and instruments to gather at their weekly Jam Session this Thursday, July 16 at Guitars & Cadillacs (6:30 p.m. 201 W. Oak Street). Learn more about the club here. Free

  • Teens can learn about and practice nature journaling this Friday, July 17 at a Flora Field Notes event hosted by the Champaign County Forest Preserve District (1 p.m., 950 N. Lombard Street). CCFPD will provide supplies and all participants will take home their new journals! (More info & registration) Free

  • Come learn about local resources for families this Saturday, July 18 at Uplift Hope Mahomet, a resource fair and block party at Vineyard Life Church (12 p.m. 702 Turkey Farm Road). The event will include food, games, and fun, as well as a pop-up food pantry, clothes closet, and wellness care package giveaway. (More info) Free

  • Wrap up your weekend with free ice cream and live music! This Sunday, July 19, the Mahomet Public Library Board of Trustees hosts its annual Ice Cream Social at the library, with entertainment from ragtime duo Cherry & Jerry (2 p.m., 1702 E. Oak Street).
