This Week in Mahomet: August 24-30

The last week of August is a busy one, culminating with Mahomet Music Festival, the Village’s biggest weekend of the year! Check out our highlighted creative, active, social and educational events below.

• This Tuesday, August 25, head to The Village Garden Shoppe for a Pressed Flower Workshop (5 p.m., 201 E. Oak Street). Crafters will make two projects with pressed flowers and can bring their own drinks and snacks to make a night of it with friends. (Buy tickets) $45

• The monthly Village Board of Trustees Meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 25 (6 p.m., 503 E. Main Street). The agenda items concern the purchase of a diesel generator, disposal of a dump truck, and contracting for sludge removal. (Full agenda) Free

• Interested in joining a service-oriented community group? The Rotary Club of Mahomet meets weekly, including this Wednesday, August 26, at The Open Room (7 a.m., 407 E. Main Street). Free

• The Golf fore Kids’ Sake Tournament offers another way to connect with others in a charitable context. Taking place Thursday, August 27, this golf tournament at Lake of the Woods Golf Course raises money for Big Brothers Big Sisters Central Illinois (12 p.m., 405 N. Lake of the Woods Road). • For a free exercise opportunity, try Yoga & Pilates Flow this Thursday, August 27 at Lake of the Woods Peninsula (7 p.m., 101 N. Lake of the Woods Road). Bring your own mat! (More info) Free

• Here’s a fun one: this Saturday, August 29, the Upper Sangamon River Conservancy will host its Annual Duck Race at the Old East Bridge (6 p.m., 106 S. East Street). Each ticket purchased is a yellow rubber ducky that will race on the Sangamon River. Your duck could win you cash or other prizes! (More info) $5

• On Sunday, August 30, The Hive Honey Beetique will host a Free Community Class: Manuka Honey 101 (1 p.m., 1828 Patton Drive). Learn about manuka honey and what makes it unique and then sample various manuka honeys and products. (Registration required) Free
