This Week in Mahomet: August 17-23

As summer ends and you transition to your fall schedule, be sure to check our Community Calendar to find a new club, workout class, or volunteer opportunity to add to your routine. While kids programming has slowed down around town, there are still ample opportunities for Mahomet to gather, and, starting this week – cheer on the Bulldogs!

• Mahomet Area Youth Club's "After the Bell" Program begins this Monday, August 17. M-S students aged 5-15 can register for after-school care taking place 3-6 p.m. Email director@mahometyouth.org for more info. Rolling registration. $24/day

• This Monday, August 17, First Baptist Church will host its Community Table event, a free dinner with dessert, music and spiritual stories, at the American Legion (Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., 412 E. Main Street). All are welcome, but registration is required for planning purposes. Free

• Adults looking for a quiet and fun activity can try Adult Crafternoon at Mahomet Public Library this Tuesday, August 18. The project will be a “No Sew Pumpkin” (1 p.m., 1702 E. Oak Street). (Registration required) Free

• Do you have a concern you would like to raise with the Village government? A regular Village Board Study Session will take place this Tuesday, August 18 (6 p.m., 503 E. Main Street). While the plan for this meeting primarily includes administrative reporting, remember that all Village meetings include a “Public Comment” portion, when attendees can voice concerns that are not on the agenda. Full agenda can be found here.

• For those in need, the monthly Helping Hands Food Giveaway will take place this Thursday, August 20 (6-7 p.m., 203 E. Adams Street). More info

• Go Bulldogs! This Friday, August 21 head to M-S High School for Dawgapalooza, a festival and pep rally hosted by the M-S Athletic and Music Boosters (4:30 p.m., 302 W. State Street). Then stay for the Football Home Opener against Morton High School (7:30 p.m., 302 W. State Street). Check back on Wednesday for a full “Know Before You Go” about Dawgapalooza!

• If you prefer the stage to the stadium, Yellow & Co. has you covered this Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22 with entertainment from Jonathan Butler-Duplessis. The Champaign native, University of Illinois alum, and Broadway actor currently performing in Hamilton will put on a show that combines singing and storytelling (7 p.m., 1830 Patton Drive). • After all that weekend fun, reset with a Neighborhood Walk with the Mahomet-Seymour Women’s Walking Club this Sunday, August 23 (4:30 p.m., meeting at Finch Drive & Country Ridge Road). Plan for a 2-mile walk on sidewalks. Free
