Cast Your Ballot, Then Gear up for the Holidays: This Week in Mahomet
Do you wake up on November 1 ready for Christmas? With Halloween behind us, it’s true that the winter holidays will be here before we know it. The Community Calendar is hinting at Christmas already, along with some interesting educational opportunities and a big Election Day.

Tuesday, November 3 is a national midterm Election Day, with local items also on the ballot.
A Village Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 4 (6 p.m., 503 E. Main Street).
The meeting includes a public hearing for the creation of a new “downtown zoning district” as well as updates to related parking ordinances
Public testimony is invited – if parking downtown is a concern of yours, make your voice heard by attending and contributing to the committee’s discussion

There are two interesting science education events happening this week.
On Wednesday, November 4, there will be a STEM Night for K-5th grade students at Middletown Prairie Elementary (6-7:30 p.m., 1301 Bulldog Drive). UIUC Engineering Ambassadors set up stations in the Gymnasium for students to explore STEM-related activities.
On Saturday, November 7, the Museum of the Grand Prairie will host an Explore Archaeology Open House for all ages (1-4 p.m., 950 N. Lombard Street). There will be special displays, dioramas, films, activities, and a guest speaker. More info can be found here.
For those of you ready to put up your holiday decorations ASAP, check out these two events happening this weekend:
On Friday November 6 and Saturday 7, the Christmas Shop Hop offers a fun way to get a jump start on your holiday shopping. The Hive Honey Beetique, Yellow & Co., The Little Things, and Main Street Botanicals will participate in this Central Illinois event.
