One of only 24 schools statewide to receive the honor this year, MSHS has been recognized as an Illinois Governor's Blue Ribbon School in the Exemplary High Achievement Category. Now in its second year, the Illinois Governor's Blue Ribbon School program is closely modeled after a national program that was sunset in 2025. Each year, schools are selected by the Illinois State Board of Education to apply to one of two categories based on statewide data.

The recognition MSHS received specifically celebrates excellent and consistent academic performance in public and non-public schools.

CUSD #3 Superintendent Dr. Kenny Lee said of the recognition that while it "celebrates MSHS, it is a shared point of pride for our entire Bulldog community, reflecting the efforts of our students, the partnership of our families, and the dedication of educators and staff who have supported our students at every stage of their learning."

MSHS Principal Chad Benedict echoed Dr. Lee's excitement for the district and community. "I'm especially happy for our staff," he said. "They work incredibly hard every day to ensure our students receive a great education and to support our families. While our high school staff does amazing things, we also recognize the tremendous foundation our elementary and junior high staff build for our students. This award reflects the strong K–12 education we provide at Mahomet-Seymour and the dedication of so many people working together to help students succeed."

Lee and Benedict attended an official press conference on October 20 in Elmwood Park, IL, where 16 public schools and 8 nonpublic schools were recognized.

In a related press release from the Office of the Governor, State Superintendent of Education Dr. Tony Sanders said, "Being named a Governor's Blue Ribbon School is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the hard work of students, educators, staff, and families. These schools have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to student success, whether through exceptional academic performance or meaningful progress in closing achievement gaps. Their accomplishments reflect the strength of Illinois education and provide examples of excellence for schools across our state."
