Village to do Free Brush Cleanup after Multiple Storms

Storms Monday night downed tree limbs around Mahomet, including at Lake of the Woods Golf Course.
Storms Monday night downed tree limbs around Mahomet, including at Lake of the Woods Golf Course.

It's been a rough couple of weeks for people who like to keep tree branches where they belong - in their trees! Just ask the crews out at Lake of the Woods Golf Course, who had to close the course on Tuesday April 29th to clear up downed trees on several holes. (Thanks to the hard work of maintenance crews, the course reopened Wednesday April 30th.!)

To help residents dealing with debris from the storms, the Village will do an additional free Brush/Tree Limb Collection the week of May 4th. Here are some important notes about putting your limbs and brush out for collection:

  • DATE: All items must be placed out before 7 a.m. on Monday, May 4th

  • What will they take?

    • Brush, shrub, and tree limbs no longer than five (5) feet in length and no greater than six (6) inches in diameter,

    • Woody stems and dried perennial plant debris greater than one (1) foot in length.

  • They will not take:

  • How should I place my limbs?

    • Brush and tree limbs, similarly aligned, are to be placed in distinct piles within three feet of the curb or street edge, perpendicular to the curb or street edge.

  • What if my limbs are too big? Unfortunately, the Village cannot accept complete trees or materials thicker than 6 inches or longer than 5 feet. For entire trees or materials outside of our guidelines, you will need to contact a private tree service for removal or Mahomet Landscapes directly at (217) 586-2520.

  • When will pickup actually happen? It will depend on the amount of materials, but pickup begins in Zone 1 on the west side of town and continue by zones until all materials are picked up. For a map of zones, click on the link above. To be certain that you are not missed, it is important to have your materials out no later than 7 a.m. on Monday, May 4th.

Full details are on the website at the link above. If you have additional questions, you may contact the Village at 586-4456 during business hours.
