This week in Mahomet, the calendar is full of opportunities to get outside at Lake of the Woods, where programming is back in full swing – check out the Community Calendar for even more than we have highlighted here.
But if nature walks and bat exploration aren’t your favorite, there are plenty of other things to do around town, like trying out a new book club format, learning about the Christian faith, or seeing well-known comedian David Koechner perform live.
This Monday, September 14, the Teen Genre Book Club at Mahomet Public Library kicks off (4 p.m., 1702 E Oak Street). Attendees in grades 6-12 choose their own book within the designated genre, which is “Realistic Fiction” this month. Learn more and register here. Free
Curious about Christianity? Alpha at Life Vineyard Church meets weekly, including this Tuesday, September 15, to tackle big life questions in the context of faith (6 p.m., 702 Turkey Farm Road). Free dinner and childcare are provided for attendees. (More info) Free
This Tuesday, September 15, the Village Board of Trustees Study Session will open discussion of several items pertaining to the sand and gravel mine at County Road 150E and County Road 2000N, including a potential ordinance to rezone 68 acres for residential development. Do you like to work and craft with your hands? Head to the Museum of the Grand Prairie on Wednesday, September 16 for Stories We Share: The Art of Making (6 p.m., 950 N. Lombard Street). The special event highlights handmade objects throughout history, and attendees are invited to bring their own “handiwork, tools, and creative traditions” to share. (More info) Free
If your interests slant more towards the great outdoors, Bats at the Bridge is sure to thrill. This family-friendly event, taking place at Lake of the Woods on Friday, September 18, gives attendees a chance to see bat habitats (and hopefully, bats) up close at the covered bridge (6 p.m., 950 N. Head back to Lake of the Woods on Saturday, September 19 for Walk. Read. Create., a gratitude-focused event beginning at the StoryWalk Trail and ending at the Museum of the Grand Prairie (10:30 a.m., 950 N. Lombard Street). (More info) Free
