On Saturday, July 25, the Midwest Muscle strongman competition will take place between Elm and Jefferson streets in downtown Mahomet. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., spectators at the free event can witness several traditional strongman challenges while also enjoying CHOP TRUCK for breakfast and lunch, plus touch-a-truck experiences.

For those unfamiliar with strongman events, feats of strength include:
Truck Pull: athletes will pull a 40-foot truck as fast and/or as far as they can within one minute
Viking Press: athletes will perform "AMRAP" (as many reps as possible) on a viking press, which is an overhead press that predominantly tests shoulder and arm strength
Thor's Hammer Hold: athletes must hold a 35-pound or 20-lb weighted item directly in front of them, with arms locked, for as long as possible
Silver Dollar Deadlift: athletes will perform a deadlift with a bar that is elevated 18 inches
Yoke Carry: athletes will carry a yoke (large steel frame) on their backs 40 feet, competing for the fastest time
Midwest Muscle is a registered United States Strongman event, and proceeds will benefit local first responder agencies and veteran non-profits. Parking will be available in the grassy area behind WesPark Towne Center.
